It was a Merry Christmas for Atlanta Hawks fan Amari Boyd and his family, as Trae, the Trae Young Family Foundation and the organization Sunshine on a Ranney Day, did all they could to make it so.
Amari was left paralyzed and wheelchair-bound by a car accident last April and his family connected with the Hawks to get Trae to visit him in the hospital and raise his spirits. The visit left Trae, a father himself, moved to tears.
“I stopped by the hospital to see him, and when I left I couldn’t stop crying,” he told NBC News. “I knew I needed to be helpful.”
Trae developed a bond with Amari and his family, frequently checking in throughout the rest of the year.
This holiday season, TYFF took that bond to the next level. Teaming up with a non-profit called Sunshine on a Ranney Day, dedicated to creating life-changing home makeovers for special needs kids and their families, Trae and TYFF funded a renovation of the Boyd family home that is tailored to Amari’s needs.
