At just 23 years of age, Trae Young is on top of the world, an NBA star who young people look up to and seek to emulate.

Trae continues to use that platform to let those young people know that they are important, that they are not alone, and that it’s important to talk about mental health.

To that end, Trae recently partnered with the Hawks and Silence the Shame,  a nonprofit focused on educating and raising awareness around issues of mental health to present a Teen Mental Wellness Courtside Chat. Trae was joined by recording artist Chlöe Bailey and the chat was hosted by Silence the Shame Founder Shanti Das. During the chat, Trae discussed the importance of the cause and shining a light so young people know it’s ok to talk to some one.

“It’s essential,” he said. “It’s a real thing. Now people are speak their mind a little bit more about what they see and what they believe and mental health is at the top of the discussion. Even as athletes and entertainers, we all go through it. It’s very important to always talk about it.”

The Hawks’ campaign with Silence the Shame continues next Sunday, March 20 as Atlanta hosts the New Orleans Pelicans. That day, the Hawks will host a pre-game panel discussion called “Sports, Entertainment and Mental Wellness.” Ticket packages are also available that include a special Silence the Shame x Atlanta Hawks t-shirt.

Trae and the Hawks also plan to host a group of student in collaboration with Silence the Shame during May, which is Mental Health Awareness Month. For more information visit Hawks.com/SilencetheShame.
