The 2020-21 season was one of Trae Young’s best on the court, as he led the Atlanta Hawks to the Conference Finals. As he prepares for an on-court encore this coming season, Sports Illustrated has taken note of all the things Trae has done off the court to make an impact in the community through philanthropy and activism.
As Pat Benson of SI.com writes, it’s his efforts in that arena that might be Trae’s most vital contribution to the NBA.
“The soft-spoken 23-year-old has quietly become one of the most important voices in the NBA. Instead of using his celebrity status to flex on fans, he has made moves to help those who need it most.”
Benson’s article highlights various efforts by Trae, including the Foundation’s efforts to erase medical debt for the less fortunate and build The Young Family Center, as well as his activism as part of the Black Lives Matter movement and in other important social justice initiatives.
“When Trae Young’s career is over, he will obviously be remembered for revitalizing the Hawks organization and rendering opposing defenses obsolete. But for now, his best playing days are still ahead of him, and so are his most significant contributions to society. Another day, another opportunity.”
