The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Hospital, a nonprofit pediatric hospital in Bethany, Oklahoma, announced on August 16, 2019 that Hawks point guard Trae Young will serve as a member of the hospital’s Honorary Board.
The hospital sits close to home for Young, who played high school basketball at Norman North and college basketball at the University of Oklahoma before being drafted fifth overall in the 2018 NBA Draft and going to the Atlanta Hawks.
Young’s role is identified as part of the hospital’s public relations and marketing campaign, including social media outreach. He first heard about the hospital when he visited Caleb Freeman, a young man who was involved in a motor vehicle accident on his way to watch Young play basketball in Norman.
“We could tell Trae was emotionally invested in doing whatever he could to help Caleb during his recovery,” said Melissa Richey, director of communications and marketing at The Children’s Center Rehabilitation Hospital. “It was at that moment that we realized Trae would be a great addition to our honorary board here at the Hospital. He is kind, compassionate, and willing to help children and teenagers with special needs.”
In addition to helping with the hospital’s public relations and marketing campaigns, Young will also serve alongside fellow honorary board members as ambassadors for the hospital as well as supporting the hospital’s fundraising efforts through personal and community influence.
Young joins a plethora of other ambassadors for the hospital, including University of Oklahoma football head coach Lincoln Riley, Detroit Tigers pitcher Michael Fulmer, Philadelphia Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Blake Bell.
